Sabbagh confirms the Syrian-Iranian deep strategic alliance in confronting terrorism

On February 16, Speaker of the People’s Assembly( parliament)  Hamouda Sabbagh discussed with the Speaker of the Iranian Islamic Shura Council ( parliament) Ali Larijani and the accompanying delegation bilateral relations between Syria and Iran in the parliamentary fields and ways to enhance cooperation to increase the level of trade exchange between the two countries.

Sabbagh stressed the  depth of the Syrian-Iranian strategic alliance in the face of terrorism, expressing his appreciation to the Iranian leadership, government and people for their continuous support for Syria.


Sabbagh called for stepping up  bilateral relations in the face of the blockade and the unilateral economic coercive measures imposed on both countries.

For his part, Larijani expressed his country's pride of the successive victories achieved by the Syrian Arab Army against terrorism.

Larijani stressed that his country continues to support Syria in all fields including the reconstruction process and to enhance  trade relations between the two countries.

The meeting was attended by a number of Members of the People’s Assembly( MP’s) , the Syrian ambassador to Iran Dr. Adnan Mahmoud, and Iran's ambassador to Syria, Jawad Turk Abadi .

 In a press conference held by Sabbagh and Larijani , Sabbagh affirmed the unity of the path and destiny between the two countries which are jointly leading the battle of resistance in the face of the forces of hegemony and  Zionism.

For his part, Larijani clarified that his talks with President Bashar al-Assad dealt with the issue of strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries.

Larijani said that when comparing the stances of some Arab countries towards the malicious ‘Deal of the Century’ with Syria's stance towards Israel, everyone sees the supremacy of the goals and objectives that Syria seeks to achieve.

Larijani highlighted the need to increase cooperation between Iranian and Syrian businessmen and traders in the reconstruction process.

In response to a question about Syrian-Iranian cooperation in the field of reconstruction, Sabbagh stressed that the Syrian-Iranian relations are always deeply rooted, referring to the role played by Iran in supporting Syria during the unjust war against it as well as Iran’s future role in the reconstruction process.

Larijani said: “There are studies on the mechanisms of the entry of Iranian companies to Syria. There are no obstacles facing the joint action, but there are some routine and administrative matters and we have proposed methods that can facilitate these matters.”
