A stand of solidarity with Syria in Vienna, denouncing the coercive measures

Vienna, (ST) -  With the participation of Arab students and Austrian citizens, the branch of the National Union of Syrian Students in Slovakia and the initiative "Hands Off Syria" organized a solidarity stand in front of the European Union headquarters in the Austrian capital Vienna yesterday.

The participants in the stand held banners denouncing the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on the Syrian people and they carried national flags.

A delegation that includes Dr. Ali Asaad, Head of the Student Branch, and Mamoun Shawky, Head of the Initiative, delivered a message during their meeting with the European Union’s Deputy Representative, Bougier Sergir, affirming that the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed by the United States and some of its allies on Syria are a flagrant violation of international, moral and humanitarian law, especially in light of the Corona pandemic.

The message stressed that unilateral coercive measures threaten peace and stability in the region and the world, constitute support for the terrorists and are a hindrance to the efforts to find a political solution to the crisis in Syria.

Austrian Professor Erent Hamill and Austrian scientific researcher Dr. Hubert Kramer, who participated in the stand, condemned the economic blockade policies aimed at subjugating peoples and governments who reject external interference and adhere to the independence of their national decision.

They criticized the international silence about these measures that only serve terrorist groups in Syria and called for the abolition of these unjust measures targeting the Syrian people, calling for strengthening the foundations of national steadfastness against terrorism, which is a regional and international threat, and for standing by Syria in the face of terrorist organizations and the countries that support them.
