Syria, Iran Discuss Free Trade Agreement, Flow of Goods Between the Two Countries

Tehran – Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Dr. Mohammad Samer Al-Khalil, who is the head of the Syrian side in the Syrian-Iranian Joint Ministerial Economic Committee discussed here yesterday with Iranian Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade, Mohammad Shariatmadari, the joint economic cooperation between the two countries and means of expanding it in the various fields.

During the meeting, Mr. Al -Khalil and Mr. Shariatmadari confirmed the keenness of the Syrian to take advantage of the possibilities available to the public and private sectors in both countries to enhance cooperation in various economic, trade and investment areas.

The two sides discussed means of developing the free trade agreement and activating it in a way that benefits the two countries, opening up the flow of goods to the Syrian and Iranian markets as well as activating the joint investment of some free zones between the two countries and working on establishing joint banks and banks.

Mr. Al -Khalil thanked the Iranian leadership, government and people for their support for Syria in its fight against terrorism, pointing out that Iran will be a key partner in the reconstruction process.

For his part, Mr. Shariatmadari said that the Syrian-Iranian relations are strong strategic ones pointing out that the situation has changed recently in Syria, stressing that Iran is ready to take part in in the process of reconstruction and to cooperate in all fields.
