Director of the International Monetary Fund: The Corona pandemic has increased the suffering of poor countries

On February 24th, the Director  of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva, said that the crisis caused by the Corona pandemic has led to a decline in many economies and increased the plight of the poor due to the lack of equal supply of vaccines to countries.

In a message to the G20 meeting scheduled to be held on February 26, Georgieva called on governments to increase the distribution of vaccines and ensure control of Covid 19 by financing vaccine campaigns, reallocating surplus supplies to countries suffering from shortages and increasing production.

According to the International Monetary Fund projections, more than half of the 110 emerging and developing countries in the world will witness a greater decline in national income compared to advanced economies.

The economic crisis resulting from the Corona pandemic will also lead to widening income gaps within developing countries themselves, especially since millions of children are still unable to resume their studies normally, according to the Fund's expectations.
