Syria-Iran Strategic Cooperation Achieved Major Victories over Terrorism: Defense Minister

DAMASCUS, (ST)-Deputy Commander in Chief of the Army and Armed Forces, Defense Minister Fahd, Lt. General Fahd  Jasem al-Freij has underscored that strategic cooperation between Syria and Iran has achieved major victories over terrorism and stressed that the two countries will stay in the axis of resistance hand in hand against terrorism and other challenges.

Lt. Gen. Al-Freij made the remarks during his meeting on Wednesday with the Iranian Army Chief of Staff, Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri.

The minister said that the Zionist-American aggression targeting Syria aimed at undermining the Syrian state, but this aggression has been foiled thanks to the wise and brave leadership of President Bashar Al-Assad, the steadfastness of the Syrian army, the unity of the Syrian people and the support of Syria's friends in Iran, Russia and Lebanese resistance.

"We are proud of the strategic cooperation between Syria and Iran that achieved major victories," al-Freij said, affirming that the two countries "will stay in the axis of resistance hand in hand to face terrorism and different challenges".

The minister clarified that "Turkey is one of main supporters of terrorism as it has opened borders for the terrorists to flow into Syria, facilitated financing terrorism by Gulf states and sought turning Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization into a so-called "moderate opposition" in order to complete its aggressive schemes against Syria."

On his part, Bagheri congratulated Lt. Gen. al-Freij on the victories achieved over terrorism  by the Syrian army in cooperation with its allies, clarifying that ISIS, Jabhat al-Nusra and other terrorist groups are tools to implement an American-Zionist scheme aiming to weaken and fragment the region.

He pointed out that the high level cooperation and coordination among countries of the axis of resistance have foiled these schemes thanks to the wise leaderships in Syria and Iran.

Bagheri renewed Iran's keenness on the unity and sovereignty of Syria and its readiness to support the Syrian state in the reconstruction process.
