Syria, UNFPA discuss cooperation in providing necessary services to children and women in Lattakia

Governor of Lattakia Ibrahim Khudr Al-Salem discussed with Deputy Representative of the United Nations Population Fund  ( UNFPA ) in Syria Fabrizia Valchioni and the accompanying delegation prospects of cooperation in various fields.

The governor highly appreciated the remarkable efforts of the UNFPA to support the government's plans in the field of improving public services.

Al-Salem drew attention to the UNFPA's major contribution to providing basic services to children, women and reproductive health and to rehabilitating social centers.

He pointed out that the UNFPA continues carrying out its work programs in Syria which help settle the people in the targeted areas.

Services should be provided according to the needs of the community and they should focus on aspects of development, al-Salem said, pointing out that 90 %  of the total services provided by the UNFPA  in Lattakia target the families which were displaced from other provinces,  due to terrorism.

On her part, Valchioni noted the support provided by the Governor to enhance the UNFPA team's activities in the province in order to achieve its hoped-for goals.

She highlighted the work programs of the UNFPA that seek supporting the hosting communities and knowing all the needs of the displaced families.

The two sides agreed on  preparing  periodic reports for the overall activities of the UNFPA  in Lattakia  and on directing services to involve the hosting environment and achieve balanced services.
